Police foils JTC, SKF activists’ bid to hold protest on NH

JAMMU, Feb 7: Police today foiled the bid of Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF ) who tried to march towards National Highway and held a protest their on the 129th day of their ongoing agitation held for redressing the demands of the displaced Pandits from Valley.
As the protestors started a march from Lane Number 7 Jagti towards National Highway, the policemen on duty stopped them from going ahead. Though the protestors jostled with police for some time but it created barricade in their way and did not allow them to move ahead. Later the protestors staged a dharna in front of J&K Bank Branch Jagti.
Addressing the protesters Shadi Lal Pandita, president JTC and SKF said that the UT and Central Government is not listening to the demands of displaced Pandits from Valley who are facing many hardships as their monthly cash relief is very low in this era of inflation.
He urged the Government to increase the cash assistance of relief holders from Rs 13,000 to Rs 25,000 per family per month immediately. Pandita said that a Government Job be given in those families in which no educated youth has got a Government Job till date. The Government should first provide one Job to each such family, he added.
Raj Kumar Tickoo unit president of JTC, convener of Soan Kashmir Front demanded that pensioners be given free ration as they can’t afford their monthly expenses on low pension.
The protestors demanded compensation for property losses suffered by displaced Pandits during last 31 years. They also demanded settlement of the displaced Pandits in three townships in Valley.
