Srinagar, Dec 1: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest today while Rajbagh office of the amalgam was sealed to prevent a workers’ session.
Mirwaiz was not allowed to come out of the house to attend the meeting and the police this morning disallowed meeting of the amalgam at its Rajbagh office. Police was heavily deployed outside the office and no one was allowed inside.
“One day #Hurriyat workers /delegate session barred! Put again under #HouseArrest! Rajbagh office of Hurriyat sealed! Not allowed any space or scope for any political activity! So much for practising honest democracy Governor sahab!” tweeted Mirwaiz.
Hurriyat Conference (M) strongly denounced the disallowing the one day workers and delegates’ session that was to be held today at Rajbagh Headquarters.
“When hundreds of delegates and workers who had come from various parts of the Valley were not allowed to assemble here they along with senior leaders Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and others moved towards the residence of Prof Bhat to conduct the session there,” the amalgam said in a statement.
“But before they could reach there all lanes and by lanes leading to Prof’s house were also sealed by a large contingent of police and forces and no one was allowed to move inside”, said the statement.
The spokesman said: “Using force and might to disallow the delegate session of a political outfit even indoors, showed the tremendous insecurity and fear of exposure of people’s will by the ruling authorities. Such authoritarian highhandedness is condemnable and against all norms of anything democratic.”
