Police faces challenging year ahead: IGP

Srinagar, Dec 21: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir has said that for serving people better the policemen should hone soft skills and make attitudinal changes in their behaviour.
A police spokesman said Mir while chairing Police Darbar and Civil Society Meet at Baramulla reminded the police that in the coming year the holding of incident free general elections and the Assembly elections, fighting the terrorists as also maintenance of law and order would be some of the challenges which the police have to overcome in 2014.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police has overcome many challenges in the past and it will continue to peruse to overcome these challenges in future as well,” IGP said in his address to the policemen at the Darbar.
While assuring that the grievances of policemen will be redressed, he impressed upon them that they should harness their professional competence so that they can serve the purpose of instilling a sense of security among the general masses for which they are meant.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various trades and services organizations including traders’ federation, teachers’ forum, transport association etc.
“Various problems and grievances such as traffic management, encroachment of footpaths, drug addiction were brought into the notice of the IGP. They also demanded police recruitment rally in old Baramulla,” the spokesman said.
The IGP also visited CCTV Control Room and CCTNS Lab besides police station Baramulla where he checked police records and the progress of important cases including cases lodged under NDPS act.
The IGP also chaired a security review meet which was attended among others by DIG, NKR, J.P Singh, SSP Baramulla Zubir Ahmed Khan, SP, Sopore Abdul Qayoom, Commandants of CRPF and SSB and other jurisdictional police officers.
