Srinagar, Apr 19: Police today detained two United States of America (USA) nationals at Srinagar Airport after a GPS Satellite device was found in the luggage of one of them during regular screening by the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF).

An official said that at around 1245 hours, the CISF personnel deployed at the first drop gate at Srinagar Airport during regular screening found a GPS Satellite device in the luggage of Prather Jeffrey Scott of Montana, USA bearing passport number 658337312.
The official said that he was accompanied by another US national Halder Koushik bearing passport number 570659933. He said that they were on their way to New Delhi by Air India Flight (No.1893).
The official said the detection triggered security protocols, leading to immediate detention and questioning of the duo to verify compliance with legal requirements governing such equipment.
They were immediately handed over to Police and they initiated verification of their travel history and purpose of visit to determine whether procedural norms were followed.
A case was registered (FIR no. 96/2026 dated 19-04-2026) in this regard in Police Post Humhama in district Budgam under section 42(3)(F). The official said that further action will depend on findings of the ongoing inquiry.
