Police cracks Doda firing case, says Lashkar module to revive militancy busted, 5 arrested

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked the mystery of Doda firing in which two SPOs got injured, of which one succumbed while five persons arrested and weapon seized.

“After attack on police post Tanta in Gandoh area of Doda, Special Investigation Team was constituted and the members visited the spot, conducted preliminary investigation along with a team of FSL, Jammu,” Dr S D Singh Jamwal, IG Jammu Zone told mediapersons here this afternoon.

He said that from the Intelligence input from the local source, SIT picked up some suspects and on their disclosure apprehended one Abdul Rashid Harga alias Abdullah, son of Mohd Iqbal, resident of Tanta who had remained active militant of LeT outfit from 2001 to 2008 and had later surrendered.

“Abdul Rashid was again arrested in the year 2013 and later bailed out in the year 2016. After sustained interrogation, Abdul Rashid Harga confessed his involvement in the firing incident and disclosed name of his two more associates namely his younger brother Shoket Ali and Akthar Magary of Tanda,” said the top cop.

He said that on interrogation of the trio the entire chain of events leading to the attack on police picket was revealed.

“It turned out that Abdul Rashid Harga was in contact with one Bashir Ahmed S/O Mohd Israil R/O Bangraw, Gandoh who was earlier working in 139 TA BN in Thathri,” he said adding,

“Bashir Ahmed had a nephew Altaf Ahmed who is working as SPO in police department in Doda district and asked him to arrange weapon for him following which he stole one AK -47 Rifle along with ammunition from district Police Line Doda in the month of Jan-2017”.

He handed over this weapon to Bashir Ahmed, who was in contact with Abdul Rashid Harga and on realising  that weapon given by SPO belongs to J&K Police he asked Abdullah to help him to take the weapon and replace with similar weapon of some militants, said the IGP.

Dr Jamwal said that Abdul Rashid Harga was in direct communication with his Pakistani Handler Mohammad Amin alias Khubeb alias Haroon alias Pinna of Kathava Phaksu, Thathri, Commander in Chief for erstwhile Doda.

“On the direction of Khubaib and Commanders of valley based militants organization, who were asking Harga to activate militancy in erstwhile Doda district. Abdul Rashid Harga alias Abdullah activated his newly recruited grid to keep vigil on the movement of security forces and police pickets in remote hilly areas of Gandoh belt and planned to attack the security forces,” he added.

The Police officer said that on May 7, Abdullah got the recce of the police Picket Tanta and got the information of presence of only 02/03 men at the Post and directed his associates to reach in the forest area near the post.

On the intervening night of May 7-8, they attacked police picket Tanta (Kahara) District Doda in which 2 SPOs namely Mohd Younus and Kikkar Singh were grievously injured.

Mohd Younis later succumbed to the injuries at GMCH Jammu. “After attacking the post accused tried to set ablaze the Police Post, however due to quick reaction of the injured SPOs they fled from the spot taking the advantage of the darkness,” said the IGP.

It was also found that Abdullah, Akhter and Shokat on the direction of Khubbeb alias Amin Butt is enticing the youths of Tanta area to join the militancy.

Abdullah on VOIP calls also getting the young generation to speak to Khubbeb and other motivators of LeT Outfits across the border for joining militancy.

“Weapon of offence AK-47 alongwith three magazines and ammunition has also been recovered,” he added. The IGP however, said that with the arrest of these five accused, recovery of weapon and busting of LeT module, is worked out by the SIT. (AGENCIES)
