JAMMU, Sept 9: Nagrota Police have busted a gang involved in stealing telecom equipment and recovered stolen property worth nearly Rs 10.5 lakh, bringing relief to mobile service providers in the region.
The case came to light after site incharges of Jio and Airtel mobile towers lodged complaints about the theft of three 5G BBU sets from towers in Nagrota earlier this month. Two separate FIRs were registered at Police Station Nagrota.
Acting swiftly, a team led by SHO Nagrota Inspector Parvez Sajad, under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota and SP Rural Jammu, launched an investigation using technical surveillance and local intelligence. Within days, three men from Kanjili village in Reasi district—identified as Uttam Singh, Varun Kumar, and Som Raj—were arrested.
During questioning, the trio disclosed the location of the stolen equipment, leading to the recovery of two Jio 5G BBU sets and one Airtel 5G BBU set.
Police officials said the recovery not only solved the two theft cases but also prevented possible disruption of telecom services in the area. Further investigation is on to check whether the accused were involved in similar incidents elsewhere.
