Police challans 23,692 vehicles, seizes 918

SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Police today said it have seized 918 vehicles and challaned 23,692 vehicles in various districts of valley for different offences in January and February this year.
A police spokesman said the drive against traffic violators is going on in view of the public complaints, grievances with regard to overloading, intermittent/ obstructive stops, misbehavior, uncleanness of vehicles, non availability of services at late hours, violation of routes, over charging, playing audio/ visual systems, negligent driving, reservation of seats for women/ handicapped, unregulated movement and wrong parking, resulting in traffic jam and accidents.
“In south Kashmir Range areas, 85 vehicles were seized and 2081 were challaned in Anantnag, 44 vehicles were seized and 663 were challaned in Awantipora, 92 vehicles were  seized and 2363 were challaned in Kulgam, 69 vehicles were seized and 1551 were challaned in Shopian and in Pulwama 77 vehicles were seized and 350 were challaned
“In Central Kashmir Range areas,168 vehicles were seized and 1812 were challaned in Srinagar, 42 vehicles were seized and 1350 were challaned in Budgam, 48 vehicles were seized and 1344 vehicles were challaned in Leh and Kargil and in Ganderbal 108 vehicles were seized and 2403 were challaned,” he said.
In North Kashmir Range, he said, 72 vehicles were seized and 1961 were challaned in Baramulla, 03 vehicles were seized and 372 were challaned in Kupwara, 31 vehicles were seized and 1611 were challaned in Handwara, 47 vehicles were seized and 2356 were challaned in Sopore and in Bandipora 32 vehicles were seized and 3476 were challaned.
