Police attaches properties of 2 drug peddlers worth 7.35 crore

KATHUA, May 21: Police on Thursday attached properties worth over Rs 7.35 crore belonging to two detained drug peddlers in Kathua district, officials said.
The move comes amid police’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking networks and their financial infrastructure.
The attached properties comprises six kanals and 18 marlas of land and a single-storey residential house, having a plinth area of 2,107 square feet, situated at Chak Sheikha area and two single storey residential houses in Galak, tehsil Ramkot district Kathua
The properties belong to Harpaul Singh, alias Balochi, a resident of Kathua, who is detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, officials said.

Investigators said the properties were prima facie, acquired through proceeds generated from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The properties were formally attached under various sections of the Act, after it was identified as illegally acquired during the course of investigation, officials said.
They said that Singh has been involved in four NDPS-related cases registered in Kathua district over the years.
In another case Kathua police under the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Billawar has attached property worth Rs 35.85 lakh belonging to a drug peddler of Galak, tehsil Ramkot of Kathua district.
Officials said the attachment operation was carried by PS Billawar by freezing two single storey residential houses worth Rs 35.85 lakh of drug peddler Mohammed Sadiq , @ Shiku of Galak , Ramkot in district Kathua.
The action was taken by the police under sections 68 A.2 (C ) & E read with 68 F of the NDPS Act of 1985. The drug peddler has been involved in many NDPS Act cases registered at PS registered at PS Billawar, officials said. He has been booked under PITNDPS Act vide Divisional Commissioner, Jammu’s order in January 2 this year and has been presently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
