SRINAGAR, June 9: Inhabitants of the North Kashmir’s Sopore area have alleged that police has arrested over 65 boys from the last week.
Locals of Hardshiva, Duroo and adjacent villages said police are harassing them for allowing stone pelting incidents to take place in the area.
Locals, who preferred not to be quoted in the story for the fear of being arrested or harassed by security forces.
“Over 65 youth of two villages have been arrested from the last week by police and a list of about hundred boys has been forwarded to the village heads,” a youth from Hardshiva village said.
He said after stone pelting occurred in the area during Parliamentary elections police and Army has been harassing the residents
The residents said that police has asked through village heads the suspected youths to report the police stations.
A senior police officer who wished anonymity told Excelsior these youth were involved in stone pelting and protests during Parliamentary elections.
“The youth who have FIRs against them for stone pelting are to be necessarily arrested to maintain law and order. But instead of harassing their families we ask them to report to police stations, the officer said.
