JAMMU, Sept 8: Union Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today inaugurated, online, new structures in the premises of Central University Jammu.
These include a Students Hostel named after Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a Guest House named Pandit Prem Nath Dogra and a road named after Brigadier Rajendra Singh respectively.
Pokhriyal, in his address, appreciated the leadership of Central University Jammu for setting up these projects. He said, these projects led to development of infrastructure and education in Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and are in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”.
Union Education Minister appreciated the institutional building efforts of Vice Chancellor Professor Ashok Aima and for giving it academic visibility of the university at national and international level. He impressed upon him to continue his consistent guidance in order to make Central University of Jamma a Centre of Excellence.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who was the Guest of Honour, said that this is possibly the first ever Government university in India where a complex is being named after Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He expressed pride to note that the first ever Government project to be named after Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee in 70 years after independence, happened to be in his parliamentary constituency where Asia’s longest tunnel at Chenani-Nashri was named after Dr Mookerjee last year.
Similarly, Dr Jitendra Singh noted that this is possibly the first time that in any government premises, two important structures are named after the founder of Praja Parishad movement Pandit Prem Nath Dogra and the saviour of Jammu & Kashmir Brig Rajendra Singh.
Pointing out that two important ingredients that give identity to an education institution are its faculty and its exclusive departments, Dr Jitendra Singh expressed satisfaction that the University of Jammu, in recent years, has started exclusive departments. In this regard, he referred to two of the departments associated with his Ministerial responsibilities, namely the Department of Space which has started the North India’s first ever Study-cum-Research Centre in Space Science in Central University Jammu and Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) which is processing the proposal of setting up of Centre for Study in Governance in the Central University Jammu.
Prof. Ashok Aima, Central University of Jammu in his address, gave a brief description about major achievements of the university during his tenure since April 2015 and said that the all India character of the Central University of Jammu has been promoted by admitting students and research scholars across diverse regions of the country.
Minister of State for Education ,Sanjay Dhotre was also present in the inauguration . Earlier, the programme began with Vedic Ma?gal?caran by Manish Kumar and a brief introduction was given by Prof. Rasal Singh, Dean Students’ Welfare.
Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Assistant DSW, Central University of Jammu elaborated the Rationale of the nomenclature. Dr. Ravi Kumar, Registrar presented vote of thanks and the dais was coordinated Dr. Bachha Babu, Proctor of the university. The event was attended by Deans, Heads, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of the university.
