JAMMU, Feb 20: Demanding per month financial relief of Rs 25,000 to per family with interest of 13 years according to financial package sanctioned by the Government of India, Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugees Front today held a protest demonstration.
Hundreds of PoJK refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 assembled outside Press Club under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugees Front and raised slogans against the Government for not redressing their genuine demands.
Addressing the gathering, president of Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugees Front Rachhpal Singh flayed the Government for its callous attitude towards the plight of PoJK refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971.
The immunity provided by the Article 370 has made the J&K Government adamant. It does not bother even to implement verdicts of the Supreme Court and National Human Rights Commission, he added.
Singh said that PoJK refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 have been deprived of their rights including final settlement, financial package, social, education, employment and political rights.
He demanded financial package of Rs 25 lakhs per family, compensation against moveable and immoveable property, compensation against deficiency of agricultural land and residential plot, allotment of agricultural land and residential plot, per month relief of Rs 25,000 to each family, ownership rights on EP land and residential quarters, payment against camp expenses to non-camp DPs of 1947 amounting Rs 5 lakh to each family, compensation against loss of life, registration of non-camp DPs and social, educational and employment package, 5 per cent quota ion the central professional colleges, central, corporate and para military forces, increase in assembly sets by 24 sets and atleast 8 assembly seats to PoJK refugees.
Among others present were Sham Singh, senior vice president, Krishan Chib, vice president, Baj Ram, general secretary, Ishar Singh, advisor, Jit Lal, cashier, Bari Ram, Jamuna Devi, Charan Dass, Shamsher Singh Dalpat and Mohinder Singh, members, etc.
