JAMMU, Feb 26: Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugee Front staged protest demonstration against the PRO Jammu and Additional Commissioner Jammu for creating hurdles in the process of implementation of the financial package sanctioned by Government of India.
A large number of refugees including women activists under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir PoJK Refugee Front-1947, 65 and 71 assembled at Press Club and started protest in support of their long pending demands. Rachhpal Singh Chib, President of the Front, was leading the protest.
The protesters shouted slogans against Government alleging that it has failed to mitigate the sufferings of thousands of refugee families struggling for their rights for the last over six decades. They demanded their final settlement package being sanctioned by the Government of India.
Chib said that on recommendation of National Human Rights Commission, the Government of India conveyed approval for the grant of rehabilitation relief to the uprooted families from PoJK but the same was not provided to the refugees.
He demanded disbursement of financial package sanctioned by Government of India among families/persons who were released from Pak jails in 1950, DPs who did not stay in camps and displaced families in whose cases the heads of the families did not move with their families.
He also demanded necessary publication of notification regarding disbursement of relief in the newspapers, so that the deserving may not feel dejected.
Chib further disclosed that the Front has submitted a memorandum for enhancement of package to Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, PRO Jammu and Governor NN Vohra, but no response has been received so far.
He warned to launch agitation if appropriate action was not taken in favour of issues, being faced by PoJK refugees.
