JAMMU, Sept 18: Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) in a meeting today while discussing various issues confronting the displaced Kashmiri Pandits showed their utter concern over the stoic silence maintained by the Government on the pressing demands of the community.
The meeting was chaired by Prof K N Pandita to finalise the names of journalists for this year’s Pt Prem Nath Bhat Armature journalist award. Dr Pandita, while addressing the meeting said it is totally disgusting that present dispensation at Centre has given a raw deal to the community which has not entered the 34th year of exile. He said one generation has vanished since 1990 in the hope of return and rehabilitation in their homeland Kashmir but the successive governments since then showed neither any will power nor concern in this regard with the result the future of community is turning bleak and an ancient civilization of India having over 6000 years of rich cultural history is on the path of extinction.
Dr Pandita warned that how indifferent the ruling class will remain towards the exiled minority Pandits from Valley history will not forgive them for their failure in giving justice to this miniscule minority from Valley which has been ignored only as they don’t constitute the vote bank.
Supporting him Prof A N Sadhu a senior KP leader said that though community had pinned high hopes in present Government but it’s attitude in no way has been better towards the displaced Pandits than the previous Union Governments as the major issue of their resettlement and rehabilitation has been put under carpet. He said the community has been totally betrayed with the stoic silence maintained by Government over the passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill the issue for which the Trust has been struggling for over a decade now.
Delaying tactics of the Government on the Bill was also the concern of other members including Prof R L Shant, Prof Trisal, Kashmiri Lal convener of the Trust, Virender Raina president PK, Dr M K Bharat, R K Shah, Sundri Lal Koul, Bansi Lal Zar and Shadi Lal in the meeting who urged the Government to take immediate steps in brining an ordinance on Temples and Shrines. The meeting also decided to present the Armature journalist awards on October 8.
