JAMMU, June 1: General body of the Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust has appealed to all the Mahants, managers and trustees of temples and Hindu shrines in Kashmir to rise above the personal interest and work in the interest of the protection and preservation of the temple and shrines in Kashmir, which is the sole objective of the Shrine Bill. Speaking about the resolve of the general body to get the shrine bill passed without any dilution, Dr R L Bhat, spokesperson of the Trust, said that the PNBMT has great reverence for the Sadhus and Sanyaasiis who have given up their homes and possessions to server dharma. PNBMT requests them to lead their disciples and followers to show similar indifference for the temple properties and treat them as the property of the largar Samaaj.
Speakers including Dr A N Pandita, Dr R L Bhat, M K Jalali, Virinder Raina, B L Bhat, H L Bhat, A K Raina, B L Zar, B L Saraf, Manmohan Thaplo, Shubanji Saraf, K L Bhat, Shadi Lal Koul, expressed respect for the saintly personages of the hoary temples in the Valley. The speakers said that the saintly people cannot support mismanagement of the temples and shrines in the Valley. They noted that the Sadhus and Sants too were forced out of the Valley in 1990, and remained out of the Valley during the critical years. However, they returned after the popular Government was established and have been worshipping at the various shrines, since. They assured the Sadhus and Purohits that Shrine Bill would not interfere with their Pujas.
They said transparent management of the Bill would end temple properties being treated as private property. General body chalked out a program of interaction with all the people, trusts and managers too, to remove any misgivings about the Shrine Bill due disinformation by some vested interests.
Speakers at the meeting made it clear that the struggle for the Shrine Bill was the aspiration of the Samaaj. They hoped that the government would show sincerity and commitment to the promises they all have made to the Samaaj and introduce Shrine Bill in the Current session of the legislature. The whole samaaj was looking to it.
