Kashmir hospitals suffered Rs 625.78 cr loss in 2014 floods

Srinagar, June 1:  Government today revealed that the health infrastructure suffered a loss of Rs 625.78 crore during the devastating floods of September 2014.
In a written reply to a question of MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in Upper House, the Minister Incharge Health and Medical Education said the building infrastructure including medical equipments/ machinery, drugs/ consumables etc. of Government Medical College, Srinagar and its associated hospitals and SKIMS Medical College Bemina, suffered a total loss of Rs. 625.78 crore during the devastating floods of September 2014.
“Government Medical College Srinagar and its associated hospitals suffered a loss of Rs. 267.96 crore, SKIMS Rs. 322.74 crore, Government Dental College, Srinagar Rs. 16.50 and health Institutions under Director Health Services Kashmir suffered a loss of Rs. 18.58 crore,” the Minister said.
The Minister stated that against the total projection of Rs. 625.78 crore, equipments and civil works to the tune of Rs. 279.22 crore were restored and executed under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Prime Ministers National Relief Fund (PMNRF) through HLL Limited.
“Besides, an amount of Rs. 15.53 crore has been provided under PMNRF for additional replacement of damaged equipments. These hospitals are presently functional,” the Minister added.
