PNBMT pays tributes to Brig Rajinder Singh

JAMMU, Oct 26: A delegation of Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) paid homage to Brig. Rajinder Singh on his 74th Martyrdom day at his ancestral village in Bogona, Rajinderpura in district, Samba today.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the PNBMT Shiban Khaibri and comprised of Virender Raina, president Panun Kashmir (PK), Kashmiri Lal Bhat, Sanjay Pandita, Prof. S.K.Bhat, Dr.Ramesh Raina, B.L.Zar, T.K.Bhat and F.S.Jasrotia among others.
The observance of the Martyr’s day commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Brig. Rajinder Singh is an annual feature of the Trust and is being observed with great solemnity and reverance for the last many years. The day holds great significance for the members of the community because Brig. Rajinder Singh with a small battalion of soldiers held the enemy forces for two days at Uri and fought till the last man and the last bullet on this day. He ultimately embraced martyrdom at Bonyar near Uri and saved Kashmir from falling into enemy hands. He was posthumously awarded Mahavir Chakra,that would go in the annals of history as the saviour of Kashmir.
The members visited the Bagona village and the park which houses his full size murti. They paid their solemn homage and offered floral tributes to martyr.
A small function was also held to remember the supreme sacrifice of the Brig. Rajinder Singh. The function included some village elders and associates of the family of the great martyr, who narrated the tails of his valour and sense of duty to the motherland. Shiban Khaibri said that the KP community hold the martyr in great reverence and narrated the tales of his valour.
The members also visited the ancestral house of the Brig. Rajinder Singh, which has now been converted into a computer centre and a library. They were told that the relics of the great martyr are housed in the building that include his uniform and pistol.
Khaibri, demanded that more development of the village and the area around the park and his ancestral house is required. There is a need to connect the younger generations to our glorious past.
The speakers demanded that the Government Women College Parade be renamed as Maharani Tara Devi College and on the name of Brig Rajinder Singh a strategic Defence Academy be established in Jammu.
