Srinagar, Feb 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of 13 state-of-the-art Critical Care Blocks (CCBs), coming up at a cost of over Rs 350 crores in various districts across J&K, tomorrow.
According to the details, the projects include 100-bed CCBs at District Hospital Budgam and GMC Jammu; 50-bedded CCBs at District Hospital Kulgam, GMC Baramulla, GMC Rajouri, GMC Kathua, and SKIMS Medical College & Hospital, Bemina.
The cost of these 7 projects coming up under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) is Rs 207.75 crores, officials said.
Furthermore, under the Emergency Response & Health System Preparedness Package (ECRP), the foundation stone of 6 more CCBs will be laid by the PM across J&K.
The projects include 50-bedded CCBs at District Hospitals Pulwama, Kupwara, Reasi, PHC Sonamarg, and District Hospital Shopian. The cost of these projects under ERCP has been estimated at Rs 142.5 crores.
The main event, set to be held in Rajkot, will feature a virtual ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone by PM, commencing at 4:45 pm and continuing until 5:45 pm. Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha will also attend the event from J&K.
Officials told Excelsior that these facilities are poised to be state-of-the-art with all necessary requirements in place, aiming to enhance critical care in the peripheries of J&K and other tertiary areas.
“The facility will be a game-changer in all places as well as in north Kashmir in terms of enhanced critical care. Some time ago, we had accidents here in which several people died; we had to shift the injured to Srinagar for further treatment; but with such a facility coming up, critical care will improve and enable us to take care of the patients here in the north who require specialized care,” an official from Baramulla said.
The facilities, officials said, will have the necessary ventilators, high-end beds, specified washrooms, along with all other facilities necessary for trauma care under one roof.
“Apart from having the best and state-of-the-art ICUs, the facilities will also have separate and dedicated laboratories, X-Ray, and USG facilities, among others for better patient care,” officials said.
Officials from the hospital administration at GMC Baramulla noted that they have been meticulous with their proposal, which has already been submitted, and have included almost everything required for critical care. “The focus is on having a dedicated and well-equipped trauma care facility in North Kashmir.”
Apart from others, officials said, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Prof. SP Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Ministry of Tribal Affairs will attend the event.
At GMC Baramulla, Mohd Akbar Lone, Member of Parliament, Safeena Beigh, DDC Chairperson, Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, and other officials from the District Administration and GMC Baramulla will also attend the event. Officials from other districts—set for the laying of the foundation stone of CCB—will attend the event respectively.
While the creation of posts for the block will come once the facility is completed, it is to be noted here that CCB facilities require specialized staff for their operations, and if left in the hands of routine staff and doctors, such facilities are usually ineffective.
Furthermore, the PM will also dedicate 6 food testing vans under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), costing around Rs 2.63 crores. The officials informed that these vans will cater to Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Srinagar, Bandipora, Pulwama districts besides Samba, Reasi, Ganderbal and Shopian districts.
