PM to lay foundation, inaugurate 81 Colleges, 66 Career Hubs across country from Jammu

Modi to launch several projects in all 3 regions today

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Feb 2: Apart from laying foundation stone and inauguration of host of projects in all three regions of the State including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay foundation stone of 54 new Model Degree Colleges, 11 Professional Colleges and one Women University and inaugurate 16 Model Degree Colleges, 66 Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Career Hubs in the country from Vijaypur, Jammu by the press of button.
Excelsior had exclusively reported earlier that the Prime Minister will launch several projects across the country during his visit to Vijaypur, Jammu, where he will lay foundation stone and inaugurate number of projects of Jammu region including All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (foundation laying).

Official sources told the Excelsior that this is for the first time that the Prime Minister will either lay foundation stone or inaugurate several projects across the country from Jammu with the press of button. He will lay foundation stone of a total of 65 Colleges including 54 new Model Degree Colleges and 11 Professional Colleges besides one Women’s University in different States of the country. He will inaugurate 16 Model Degree Colleges and 66 Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hubs across the country.
Modi will lay foundation stone of three Model Degree Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir as well including one each at Kishtwar, Kupwara and Baramulla. He will also lay foundation stone of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub in University of Jammu.
An official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on the eve of Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, said Modi will visit Jammu, Srinagar and Leh tomorrow. He will inspect Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The Prime Minister will unveil the plaque to mark the laying of foundation stone of AIIMS, Vijaypur and AIIMS, Awantipora. The Union Cabinet chaired by Modi had approved setting up of AIIMS at Vijaypur in Jammu and AIIMS at Awantipora in Pulwama, Kashmir.
“Setting up of new AIIMS would transform the health care facilities, health education and training in the region,’’ the PMO statement said.
It said Modi will lay the foundation stone for the construction of Northern Regional Centre Campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) at Jammu through the unveiling of plaque. IIMC Director General KG Suresh has reached Jammu ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
Suresh said the IIMC will be constructed at the cost of Rs 16.5 cr and will benefit students of not only J&K but entire North India, who will get international level studies.
University of Ladakh will be launched by the Prime Minister at Leh, which will be the first region of the State; the Prime Minister will visit tomorrow morning followed by Jammu and Srinagar. It will be the first ever University in Ladakh region, established under University of Ladakh Act 2018. It will be a Cluster University comprising degree colleges of Leh, Kargil, Nubra, Zanskar, Drass and Khaltsi. The University will have Administrative Offices at Leh and Kargil.
University Institute of Engineering & Technology, Kathua will be dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister. He will then lay the foundation stone for construction of transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees in Kashmir valley through the unveiling of plaque. He will declare 100% electrification of households in Jammu and Kashmir under SAUBHAGYA Scheme.
Modi will lay foundation stone of 624 MW Kiru Hydroelectric project in Kishtwar from Vijaypur, Jammu through digital mode. It is a run of river project across river Chenab and once completed, the project will generate 2272 Million Units of electricity annually.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate 9 MW Dah Hydroelectric project. Located in Dah near village Datang, this project is a run-of–the-river scheme, by Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited.
He will dedicate to the nation, 220 KV Srinagar- Alusteng – Drass- Kargil – Leh transmission system. The foundation stone of this prestigious project was also laid by him in August 2014. 400 KV D/C Jallandhar-Samba-Rajouri- Shopian-Amargarh (Sopore) transmission lane will be dedicated to the nation by Modi. The project has augmented the grid connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir, the PMO statement said.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of 1640 meters span double lane bridge over river Chenab at Sajwal. The project will provide an alternative route for the population of Sajwal and Indri Pattian. With the completion of this bridge, the distance between Sajwal and Indri Pattian will be reduced to 5 kilometers from 47 kilometers earlier.
Modi will lay the foundation of the project aimed at reducing pollution of rivers Devika &Tawi under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP). Upon completion, the project will have a significant and direct beneficial impact in terms of reduction of pollution load in the two rivers and improvement in their water quality. Foundation of all these projects will be laid from Vijaypur, Jammu.
Sources said the Prime Minister will first lay foundation stones and inaugurate projects from official stage at Vijaypur, Jammu and then join the BJP stage near the same venue where he will address mega public rally, virtually launching the party’s campaign for Lok Sabha elections.
The Prime Minister will lay foundation stone of the new terminal building of Kushok Bakula Rimpochee (KBR) Airport in Leh by unveiling the plaque. The new terminal will be a modular, energy efficient and self-sustaining building of 18,985 square meters, the PMO statement said.
He will then open new tourist and trekking routes in Ladakh. This will offer diverse tourist activities in Ladakh and will result in more tourist flow. It will also open better livelihood opportunities to many villages, the statement added.
Facilities for launch of Rural BPO, Bandipora will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister in Srinagar.
“This will enhance employment opportunities for the youth in Bandipora and neighbouring districts,’’ the statement said.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate Multipurpose Indoor Sports Facility at Sephora, Ganderbal. The indoor sports facility will be an invaluable asset for the youth of the district Ganderbal, where they will get the chance to play indoor games.
In Srinagar, Prime Minister will interact with students from the States of Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Odisha, Maharashtra and Telangana. He will also hold an interaction with the newly elected Sarpanchs at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre.
The Prime Minister had earlier visited Jammu, Srinagar and Leh on May 19, 2018 to lay the foundation stone for various infrastructure projects in the State.
Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been made for the visit of the Prime Minister in Jammu, Srinagar and Leh.
The Special Protection Group (SPG) has already taken over security of all three venues of the Prime Minister’s visit.
“We have made all necessary security arrangements for the rally. We have put in place a four-tier security arrangement and roughly deployed 62 companies of forces along with 15 gazetted officers, apart from the territorial officers who are going to perform their own duties,” police source said.
“We have made four lawyers of the security to protect the area of the helipad and dias, public area and surrounding areas,” they said.
Vigil has also been tightened along the border in view of the visit.
Apart from this, they said, railway stations and railway tracks have also been secured.
Sources said eight companies have been deployed for night patrolling to keep a close watch. They are also equipped with night vision devices and search lights.
Amid tight security Dalgate-Nishat road was today closed ahead of the visit of Narendra Modi to Srinagar tomorrow.
Authorities today sealed the Dalgate-Nishat main road here and no traffic was allowed to ply towards Nishat from Dalgate.
The traffic was diverted to ensure free and smooth visit of the officials and the Prime Minister. The diversion today led to traffic mess at various places including the Foreshore Road, Hazratbal, Dalgate and other areas.
Earlier yesterday, the Traffic Police had formulated route plan for February 3, which was effective from today.
“No traffic shall be allowed to ply from Badyari Chowk to Nishat via Boulevard and similarly no traffic shall be allowed from Ram Munshi Bagh towards Grand Palace and Nishat via Gupkar,” Traffic police said.
Commuters travelling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat and adjacent areas towards Lal Chowk are requested to travel via Foreshore Road and Hazratbal.
Commuters travelling from Dalgate, Lal Chowk and adjacent areas towards Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat have been asked to adopt Nowpora-Khayam-Rainawari road to reach their respective destinations, officials said, adding that any inconvenience caused is highly regretted.
No movement of Shikaras was also allowed in Dal lake as Modi is also going to inspect the lake. The security forces are patrolling the lake in motor boats around the SKICC.
Meanwhile, security was tightened in and around Srinagar ahead of PM’s visit. Police and CRPF have established nakas at several places and checking of vehicles and frisking of people was intensified.
