NEW DELHI: Prime minister Narendra Modi today charged the previous UPA government with rechristening several welfare and growth-oriented schemes launched by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, evoking strong protests from the Congress.
Replying in the Rajya Sabha to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President for his address to the joint sitting of Parliament, the Prime Minister also slammed the Opposition saying threats had never worked in a democracy and would never work. ‘All that the UPA did was to rename the schemes introduced by the Vajpayee government,’ he said while identifying the schemes as Right to information Act, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and MGNREGA.
