ANANTNAG, June 3: The Prime Minister Package Employees Association (PMPEA), Mattan, under the leadership of its president Ranjan Jotshi, submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, seeking urgent approval and construction of a motorable road to the newly constructed transit quarters at Machbhawan and the speedy completion of all pending infrastructure works of different transit accommodations in the district.
It highlighted that the transit accommodations at Machbhawan were established to provide safe and secure residential facilities to PM Package employees serving in various Government departments. However, due to the absence of proper road connectivity and several incomplete infrastructure components, the quarters are yet to be made fully functional and habitable.
The delegation pointed out that essential works, including completion of residential blocks, retaining walls, boundary walls, internal road networks, and other allied infrastructure, remain pending. The Association also stressed that the existing approach road is steep, narrow, and unsuitable for regular movement of residents and emergency services, necessitating the construction of the already identified alternative road from the CRPF Camp side, Mattan.
The Association urged the administration to expedite the pace of construction and completion of transit accommodation projects not only at Machbhawan but also at Ranbirpora and Shangus, so that PM package employees can be provided secure residential facilities without further delay.
It was also submitted that package employees have been living in rented accommodations for the past 16 years, resulting in considerable financial, social, and psychological hardships. In view of the prevailing security scenario in the Valley, the Association requested the administration to ensure the earliest possible completion and possession of all transit accommodations to safeguard the welfare and security of employees and their families.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the delegation that the construction of the alternative road to the Machbhawan Transit Quarters from the CRPF Camp, Mattan, has been approved and assured that necessary steps would be taken to facilitate its early execution.
He also issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned departments and executing agencies to expedite the pace of work on all the transit accommodation projects.
