RAJKOT: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gave away various types of helping devices to over 18,500 differently-abled people here, setting a world record on distribution of helpful gadgets to ‘divyangs.’
Maintaining that his Government held a total of 5,500 such camps to help ‘divyangs’ in last three years, the prime minister rued that merely 55 such camps were organised from 1992 to 2013.
Setting a world record on distribution of various devices to differently-abled people in the camp at the Race Course ground here and addressing the beneficiaries at Samajik Adhikarita Camp, Modi said only 55 such camps were organised during the 1992-2013.
“The department of social justice and empowerment started the distribution of such devices to ‘divyangjans’ in 1992. You will be surprised to know that only 55 such programmes were organised from 1992 till 2013,” said the prime minister, who is on a two-day tour of Gujarat.
“In the three years between 2014 and 2017, our Government organised 5,500 such programmes. Just compare 55 with 5,500. It clearly shows the compassion with which our Government is functioning,” the PM said. (AGENCIES)
