NEW DELHI : Prime Minster Narendra Modi today expressed his condolences for the victims of crane crash in Mecca which includes two Indians.
In a televised address, Mr Modi said, “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in the crane crash in Mecca. I wish the injured a quick recovery.”
Two Indians have been killed and 15 injured in a crane crash at the Grand Mosque of holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, according to the latest reports reaching the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) here.
“Regrettably we have been informed that two Indians have been killed in the unfortunate accident,” MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.
“Our efforts from the Indian Consulate been on the ground and monitoring the situation through the night. We have received reports that 15 Indians have been injured (and) are being treated in various hospitals. These include 11 from the Haj Committee of India and four from private tour operators,” Mr Swarup said. “The Mission has established 24×7 clock helpline 00966125458000, 00966125496000 and toll free number 8002477786 for pilgrims within the Kingdom,” he added. Two weeks ahead of annual Haj pilgrimage, at least 107 people were killed and 238 injured when a crane toppled over at Mecca’s Grand Mosque yesterday. (AGENCIES)
