JAMMU, Mar 30: Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS), Jammu today organized a literary program where a Punjabi poetry book titled ‘Man Mandir’ written by S Balwinder Singh was released.
Sardar T S Wazir, former MLC, was the chief guest, Natha Ram, former chief engineer the guest of honour and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn presided over the function. S Davinder Singh Vishavnagrik, president and Dr Baljit Singh, general secretary, PLS, were also present on the dais.
PLS president welcomed the guests and gave a brief introduction about the objectives and programs of Sabha.
Papers reflecting on the works of S Balwinder Singh and various aspects of his literary works were read out by Dr Gurmeet Kaur and S Popinder Paras. The papers gave a detailed introduction about the technique, style and themes undertaken by the poet in his poetry in the released book.
Speaking on this occasion the chief guest S. T S Wazir said that the poetry of S Balwinder Singh is relevant to all the times. He said that he has touched the issues related to evils like drug addiction, bribery, social issues and the sensitive concerns like the issue of Kashmir. He appreciated the efforts of Punjabi Lekhak Sabha to promote Punjabi language in the State and the region. He also assured his support for the cause of promotion of Punjabi language.
Natha Ram expressed his views on the experiences of life spent with S Balwinder Singh. S Amar Singh Kuka, S Bachan Bharti, Dr Monojit and S Balwinder Singh recited pieces of the poetry included in the released book.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn in his presidential address appreciated the themes and concerns chosen by S Balwinder Singh in expressing himself and said that reciting the poetry of a writer by his contemporary poets is a new experiment in the program he witnessed during the function.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by PLS general secretary Dr Baljit Singh Raina.
