SRINAGAR : As heat wave continued across the country, people in the Kashmir valley are yet to see the summer as more rains are predicted for next four days as a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit the Valley by this evening.
The weather remained pleasant due to cloudy weather and mercury remained below normal, it will affect the fruit and other crops in the valley, where majority of people continued to wear warm cloths. Sun was again playing hide and seek in the Valley, where fruit and other crops, particularly cherry and strawberry besides vegetables were affected due to wet and cloudy weather.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be scattered rain or thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
However, during the subsequent two days there is possibility of scattered to fairly wide spreadrain or thundershowers on May 30, 31 and June 1.
He said there is a possibility of thundery development towards evening in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the maximum temperature was 25.1 degrees Celsius yesterday, more than a notch below normal.
However, the minimum temperature was near normal in the city, where construction and renovation of houses and shops, damaged in September last year flood, was going on.
The spokesman said the maximum and minimum temperatures in the city would be around 26 degrees and 13 degrees respectively, during the next 24 hours. Pahalgam, a famous health resort, serving as base camp for holy annual Amarnath pilgrimage, commencing from July 2, witnessed an increase by one degree. However, it was still a notch below normal.
The spokesman said against yesterday’s 4.2 degree, it was 5 degree, a degree below normal. At world famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, against yesterdays minimum temperature of 5 degrees, it was 6.2 degrees, a notch below normal.
Qazigund recorded 9.2 degrees minimum temperature, two notches below normal while at Kokernag tourist resort it was 10.5 degrees half a notch below normal. At Kupwara in north Kashmir, it was 8.5 degrees 2.5 degrees below normal. The border town of Kargil recorded further drop in the minimum temperature and settled at 2.5 degrees against yesterday’s 2.8 degrees while at Leh it was 3.2 degrees against 3.1 degrees recorded yesterday. He said the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 19 degree and 5 degree respectively during the next 24 hours at Leh. There will be no respite from the heat wave at Jammu where the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 40 degrees and 26 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours.
