JAMMU, Aug 7: Under the guidance of Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, Jammu, Samooh Theatre here today staged a play on the life and contributions of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Mukherjee is remembered for his agitation against two flags, two constitutions and two Prime Ministers in J&K in the year 1953 when he sacrificed his life. He is also called ‘the Lion of Parliament’.
Mukherjee died as a detainee in a Kashmir prison on June 23, 1953. After the sacrifice of life, the ID card rule was revoked owing to his efforts,
Artists who performed in the play were Jagdish Raj Sagar, Soham Kashap, Rohit Rajput, Arun Sharma, Faraht Sheikh, Sarrrish Sheikh, Rishav Jashi Bardhan and Arjun Sharma; make up was done by Dr. Kamal Sharma; set designed by Shazi Khan; costumes by Anita Chandpuri and Kamal Chandpuri; music by Krishan Bala; lights by Aaditya Bharti and Brijesh Avtar Sharma; sound by Lokesh Chander and light execution by Pankaj Sharma while Shallen Mahajan arranged the properties of the play; Paramjeet Singh Titto did videography and Parav Sagar, Chandan and Akhil Mankotra were backstage artists.
Prominent among those who witnessed the play were Ashok Angurana, Baljeet Singh Rana, Ravinder Koul, Arvind Anand, Dr. Kasturi Lal Gupta, Prof. Kulbhushan Mohtra and others.
