CHENNAI, Apr 19 : Senior BJP leader and union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday demanded that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M. K. Stalin, whose party is a key ally of the Opposition INDIA bloc, should apologise to the women of Tamil Nadu for stalling the Women’s Reservation Bill, which would have ensured enhanced their representation in Parliament and State Legislatures.
Talking to reporters here, he asserted that the Women’s Bill was aimed at empowering women from all sections of society, and accused Opposition parties of prioritising political calculations over social progress.
Reiterating the BJP’s commitment to women’s empowerment, he said the party would continue to push for reforms that enhance participation of women in governance, while urging voters to hold the DMK accountable for its stand.
He alleged that the DMK had created “flimsy excuses” to stall the Legislation and mislead the public on key issues.
He further accused the party of denying women greater representation in legislatures.
Sharpening his attack, he said the DMK’s stance had exposed its “true intent,” and maintained that the BJP would take the issue directly to the people in the run-up to the elections.
Goyal also said Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of the DMK Chief “can never be made Chief Minister forever,” accusing the ruling party of promoting dynastic politics and limiting leadership opportunities.
