Photojournalists protest, seek release of colleague

Srinagar, Sept 6: Several photojournalists hailing from Pulwama district of south Kashmir today staged a protest and sought release of their colleague held by National Investigation Agency (NIA) on stone-pelting charges.
The photojournalists working with various local and national media outlets appeared in Press Enclave here and demanded release of Kamran Yousuf, who works with a local daily, from NIA custody. They were holding placards and banners which read “Kamran is a photojournalist, not a stone pelter”.
“He is an honest man and has always delivered his services honestly. He was penalised for delivering his services. I think the honest portray of news events particularly during the unrest of 2016 landed him behind the bars. It is unfortunate to witness such things in a mature democracy like ours,” a protesting photojournalist said.
The lensmen castigated a local daily with which Kamran was associated for disowning him and said he was working tirelessly for them from past two years.
