SRINAGAR, May 31: Raising the issue of pending salaries, the Kashmir PHE Joint Employees Association today demanded the immediate appointment of an Executive Engineer for the Mechanical Division of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in Srinagar.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the Association’s Chairman, Sajjad Ahmed Parray, said the post lying vacant for the past three months, has led to salary delays affecting more than 650 employees. He questioned the Government for “inaction.”
“We demand that the Government immediately fill up the vacant post of Executive Engineer or assign the additional charge to a suitable officer so that pending salaries can be disbursed before Eid-ul-Adha,” Parray said.
He said it was disheartening that employees who have consistently ensured the supply of clean drinking water to the public are now being neglected.
“It is unfortunate that the post of Executive Engineer in the PHE Mechanical Division Srinagar has remained vacant for the last three years. As a result, many employees have not received their salaries for three months-this is both sad and unacceptable,” he added.
Parray criticized the Government for its continued inaction, saying that despite repeated representations, officials have only sought more time without providing any tangible solution.
“From casual workers to engineers, everyone in the department has worked selflessly despite difficult conditions and a lack of basic facilities. But the Government’s silence now amounts to collective punishment of entire families. Is this the ‘Naya Kashmir’ we were promised?” he asked.
