JAMMU, Dec 11: The PHE workers held strong protest demonstration followed by day long dharna in the office complex of Chief Engineer, PHE at BC Road here today.
A large number of workers of various cadre under the banner of PHE Workers Welfare Association led by Subash Chander Verma assembled in the PHE offices complex at B C Road this morning and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans in support of their pending demands and other burning issues of permanent field operational staff.
In this protest programme the permanent staff of the PHE department from various Divisions and Sub Divisions participated. They were also raising anti-Govt and anti-PHE Administration slogans which have miserably failed to address pending issues of the employees. The DPC has not been conducted since long resulting into stagnation in promotions of the employees. Many employees are at the verge of retirement but continue to remain at the same post since many years.
While speaking on the occasion, Subash Verma criticized the higher authorities in the department to ignore the genuine and legitimate issues of the employees. He alleged that department has failed to conduct DPC since long and this has created uncertainty on the future of the employees who are nearing their superannuation. He demanded creation of higher scale posts, change of designation of the serving employees, declaring SRO -149 of 1973 functional and stoppage of recovery from those employees who have been granted benefit under this SRO.
Verma said that Association has presented several representations to the higher authorities with regard to their demands and also held meetings with the senior officers but they remained unmoved. The employees are being forced to launch agitational path.
Prominent among others who addressed the gathering included Rattan Doshi, Babu Singh, Swarn Singh, Chuni Lal, Jaswant Kumar, Lal Chand, Manzoor Ali and Ajit Singh.
