UDHAMPUR, July 18: Seeking redressal of their long pending demands, Jal Shakti (PHE) workers and employees held a strong protest demonstration at PHE Complex, Udhampur, here today, under the leadership of Som Nath, President of the Jal Shakti (PHE) Employees and Workers Association.
The employees drawn from different areas assembled at the PHE complex Udhampur and held demonstration amidst raising of slogans in support of their demands. They were demanding regularization of CP/ITI/Land case workers, release of pending wages, implementation of Minimum Wages Act and engagement of more workers to run the PHE schemes.
While addressing the protest demonstration, Som Nath criticized the UT Government for allegedly befooling the Daily Wagers, whose grievances were not being addressed since long. He reminded that the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha had committed at the Raj Bhawan on November 11, 2020 with the PHE Employees United Front that the demands of daily wagers would be addressed. As soon as the LG fulfill the demands, the workers will immediately call off their strike, he said and added that water in Jammu region is badly affected for the last 27 days.
“The UT administration is paying no attention to the demands of the workers with the result general public is suffering,” he said and appealed all the daily wagers to remain united and continue the ongoing Kam Chor Hartal till the demands are fulfilled by the Government.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Rajinder, Kulbhushan Bhat, Rattan All, Mohan Lal, Kishore Kumar, Karan Singh, Baldev and Ashish Samotra.
