UDHAMPUR, Nov 2: Facing starvation after being denied their wages for the last 58 months, the PHE daily wagers have decided to suspend water supply and go on strike from November 4 to 12 in district Udhampur.
In a meeting of the workers held under the banner of Water Works (PHE) Employees Association Udhampur, led by Som Nath, its president, the members unanimously resolved to go on strike and suspend water supply in Udhampur district from November 4. They said that despite several representations to the senior officers, the issue was not settled. Even a few days ago, the matter was taken up with the Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, SE PHE and the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur. They only gave assurances.
Som Nath alleged that PHE daily wagers/ consolidated workers are performing their duty regularly but they have been denied their hard earned wages by the Government. He said the Government will be responsible for any crisis aroused with the strike of the PHE workers.
He also demanded regularisation of CP/ITI/ LC workers, remove shortage of staff in various pumping/ water stations and PHE offices, clear pending SRO-43 cases, conduct DPC of all cadre, increase Medical allowance of workers and change the designation of the employees as per their nature of job.
He appealed the workers and employees to remain united for the cause and observe complete strike from November 4.
Senior members Suraj Parkash, Vijay Kumar, Jagdish Mangotra, Dinesh Kesar and Baldev Raj also spoke on the occasion.
