PHE employees demand release of wages

UDHAMPUR, Feb 3: The PHE Employees Association of districts Udhampur and Reasi, has appealed the Minister for PHE, Irrigation nand Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma to release of pending wages of workers for the past 18 months.
The demand was made in a meting of district executives of both the districts in a meeting held here under the chairmanship of Som Nath. The speakers appealed the Minister for release of wages as Rs 42 crore were available with the department as against Rs 82 crore required for pending wages, which was agreed to by the Minister himself in the employees’ convention on December 28, 2013.
Other demands highlighted in the meeting included engagement of workers to mantain the water supply schemes smoothly; Holding of DPC meeting, which has not been convened even after the directions of the Minister; Change in designation as per nature of job being performed by the employees; Benefit of SRO 64 by way of regularization of different categories of workers; Enhancement in daily wage rate to Rs 350; Stoppage to direct recruitments till all workers were regularized; and Immediate circulation of list of workers engaged in the department.
Seeking immediate intervention of the Chief Minister for getting resolved their long pending demands, Association president has asked that if crores of rupees are spent for projects, then who meagre wages of workers are not given.
Others who spoke were Rattan Singh, Vijay Kumar, Baldev Raj, Suraj Parkash, Subash Chander, Mohinder Singh, Makhan Chand, Krishan Chand, Chuni Lal, Rajinder Kumar, Om Raj, Ved Parkash, Luxman Singh, Bharat Singh and others.
