UDHAMPUR, June 3: Various long pending genuine demands of employees and workers were highlighted in an executive meeting of PHE Employees Association, at PHE Complex, Udhampur, under the chairmanship of Som Nath, vice president of the association for Jammu province.
The speakers forcefully demanded release of pending wages of workers at an earliest which have not been provided to them for the past 14 to 18 months. Under such prevailing conditions when the workers are starving how can one expect best services from them, they asked.
The meeting demanded provision of new staff for new water supply schemes on which crores of rupees are spent but no provision is made to appoint requisite staff to man those. The speakers also demanded change of designation of workers as per nature of job being done by them and holding of DPC meeting which has not been held for the past 15 years.
Benefit of SRO 64 in favour of all daily wagers, ITI workers, community participation staff and making as daily wagers to all those who have completed seven years of services. The speakers also demanded an end to harassment of workers on different pretext as also putting an end to the practice of recruitment of workers on Rs 500 per month to complete the water supply schemes etc.
A deputation of association under the leadership of Som Nath also met Superintending Engineer (Hydraulic Circle) and demanded immediate release of wages. The SE assured for his best in the matter. Som Nath appealed the Government to fulfill all the long pending genuine demands of the employees so that they may not have to adopt path of agitation.
Others who spoke included Rattan Singh, Subash Chander, Suraj Prakash, Krishan Chand, Baldev Raj, Amar Dev Singh, Luxman Singh, Chuni Lal, Shiv Lal Sharma, Kuldeep Kumar, Balveer Singh and others.
