According to the reports, a daily rated worker of PHE Department namely Mohd Riaz Hussain of Poonch consumed some poisonous substance yesterday. His family members shifted him to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he passed away.
Alleging that the deceased PHE employee was under stress for last several months due to non-payment of salary by the Government which forced him to take this extreme step, his family members and other daily rated workers of PHE Department staged a protest demonstration in front of the office of Chief Engineer, PHE at BC Road, Jammu by parking the ambulance carrying the body of the deceased nearby.
Raising slogans against the LG Administration, the protesting daily wagers said that due to non-payment of their meager salaries for last 70 months, their families are on the verge of starvation. “We are unable to meet our both ends meet and pay school fees of our children. Already we have borrowed enough money from our friends and relatives to fulfill basic necessities of life and we are not in a condition to pay them back,” they said, in this situation we have no option except to end our lives like Mohd Riaz.
Accusing the PHE Department for death of Mohd Riaz, the protesting daily wagers demanded ex-gratia for his family, besides clearing all his pending dues. They also demanded the LG to pass orders for regular payment of all daily wagers and need based workers, besides regularizing their jobs.
