Srinagar, Sept 12: The casual, daily wagers of the PHE Department today staged a protest here demanding immediate regularization of their services as well as the release of their pending wages for the last several months.
Scores of such employees assembled at the Press Enclave and said that the Government has been ignoring their plight for a long time now and that it is time for the Government to take the necessary steps for their regularization.
“We have earlier also come down on streets and the administration had an idea how many people were out on roads; the government should not compel us to come to do the same, rather should take care of our demands,” Sajad Parray, President of the Association representing the casual wagers said.
He said that by the evening of September 13, if the pending wages of the workers are not released, then they will proceed on a strike from September 14. “We do not want the path of confrontation, but we are being forced,” he added.
He said that the services of these employees must be regularized and that the Government needs to take note of the plight of these workers working in the department for the last several years. The protestors said that they along with the families are suffering while as, they said, that the Government has not taken any note of it.
“If that’s not done, then we will be forced to come on to the streets and will not attend to our duties; the Govt will be responsible for the consequences after that,” he said.
