JAMMU, July 6: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has completed the rectification work of 400 KV Baglihar-Kishenpur Transmission line in a record time of nearly 7 hours.
An official spokesman of the PGCIL said that the line suffered some damages near Peera Top during the last winter and subsequently brought the generation of Baglihar Hydroelectric Project to a grinding halt. On the request of Power Development Corporation, the line was temporarily restored by PGCIL on January 12, 2012.
However, the PDC noticed frequent trippings on both circuits of the line especially during windy weather conditions and once again the Corporation requested PGCIL to rectify the problem permanently.
Accordingly, PDC was requested to arrange shut down from July 6 to July 8 as rectifying the problem was of very difficult and risky in nature. Soon after PDC agreed to provide shut down PGCIL mobilized its Engineers, Supervisors and Technicians from Narwal, Kishenpur and Batote.
Keeping in view already scarce power in whole of North India, the PGCIL Engineers under the close supervision of K R Suri, General Manager (O&M) finished this difficult job in record time of 6 hours and 45 minutes only. The achievement could be made possible only due to proper planning and co-ordination. The work was executed in presence of Power Development Corporation officials.
Chief Engineer (E), Baglihar Project, T K Koul said that due to completion of work in nearly seven hours, there will be no shut down of transmission line and power house on July 7 and 8 as scheduled earlier.
