LUCKNOW, Jan 14:
Million of people throng a dip in the holy rivers of Uttar Pradesh braving cold weather and dense fog and amid the rise in Covid 19 cases on Friday on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
In Prayagraj, the month long Magh Mela has formally started from Friday where too, a large number of devotees, along with Kalpavasis, took a dip on the Sangam in the early hours.
Apart from Prayagraj, people in Varanasi, Hapur, Kanpur, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur along with other districts also thronged to bathj on Makar Sankranti.
Reports said that even after the spread of the third wave of corona virus on Makar Sankranti, people are fearlessly taking a dip in the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati in Prayagraj. Here devotees are taking a holy dip at the Sangam as well as at Ramghat, Daraganj, Akshaywat, Gangoli Shivala and Phaphamau Ghats of river Ganges. Along with bathing, pilgrimages are taking blessings by donating khichdi, black sesame, jaggery, blanket etc. to the priests.
Bhandara has started in the camps of saints in the fair area from the festival of Makar Sankranti. Devotees are moving ahead after taking prasad in the camp of saints. Khichdi Prasad is being distributed in most of the camps.
A report from Varanasi said there is are a lot of people on the Ganga ghats on Makar Sankranti. Due to clear weather, people are taking holy dip in the Ganges river in large numbers. Devotees thronged the Ganga Ghats for bath on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
People are performing darshan-puja after bathing at Shrikashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. Apart from Varanasi, people have gathered on the banks of river Ganga in Garhmukteshwar in Hapur, Farrukhabad, Kanpur and Dalmau in Rae Bareli. A large number of people are also taking bath on the banks of river Saryu in Ayodhya. In Gorakhpur too, people are engaged in charity after bathing on the ghat of Rapti river. (UNI)
