KISHTWAR, Dec 8: The irate residents of village Bhera Bhatta today held a strong protest and blocked Sarkoot Chowk against acute shortage of drinking water in the village.
A large number of residents of the village particularly women and children today assembled at Sarkoot Chowk and started raising slogans against PHE Department and the concerned officials for ignoring their sufferings in the absence of proper water supply.
“We have not taken bath for last many days and are bound to wear dirty clothes, as there is no water in our houses even to wash a handkerchief”, the protesting people alleged.
They demanded action against the concerned officials for not restoring water supply in the area. “Even after our repeated requests the concerned officials did nothing for restoration of water supply in the area” they said.
The protesting villagers also staged dharna at Sarkoot Chowk and disrupted traffic movement for hours together. The dharna was lifted only after the assurance of Minister of State for R&B and Revenue, Sunil Sharma, that problem of water supply in the area will be solved at the earliest.
Meanwhile, local Congress leader, Randeep Bhandari, demanded the State Government to take proper measures to solve water shortage problem in Kishtwar. He also demanded the concerned higher authorities to cancel the allotted tender of the company which is doing the work of Naigad water supply work.
