JAMMU, May 20: The JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra today hit out at the Centre Government for not restoring the promised statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, after failing to secure majority in Assembly elections, as a result, people are sandwiched between two power centres.
Addressing a workers convention at Talab Tillo Jammu, JKPCC chief lashed out at the BJP for betraying the people of J&K over Statehood, after failing to get majority in Assembly elections to form the government. People are worst sufferers of the dual control system and getting sandwiches between two power centres, which is a negation of the mandate of people.
Accompanied by a team of senior Congress leaders including working president Raman Bhalla, former ministers Mula Ram, Yogesh Sawhney, Gurbachan Rana, Abdul Majeed Wani, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma and others, Karra addressed a largely attended workers convention including women, as part of Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan dedicated to the week long commemoration of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi martyrdom. The programme was organised by senior party leader Sanjeev Panda and Ex- Councilor Sonika Sharma alongwith Block and ward committees of the party.
Karra said Jammu region especially Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur Reasi districts are worst affected due to policies of BJP and LG administration in the aftermath of downgrading of statehood and abrogation of special status .The Youth are getting deprived of jobs at the cost of outside candidates, land being taken over ,natural resources like sand, gravel, forests products being looted at the cost of local bread earners and consumers.
He said that Congress fighting for statehood under `Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’ through Ghar Ghar Dastak, Har Ghar Dastak to awaken people, as without statehood people will not get back their snatched democratic rights .
Working president Raman Bhalla hit out at BJP for following the politics of hate and communalism and targeting particular sections of society for vote bank politics. It is dangerous for the society & nation for short term policy to divide and rule. He said Congress firmly stands for secular and inclusive policies to strengthen the social and secular fabric of the society and maintain harmony and peace.
Former ministers Mula Ram and Yogesh Sawheny also spoke on the occasion.
