UDHAMPUR, May 13: The family members and relatives of the deceased youth, supported by villagers from Simna today held strong protest demonstration at Samroli (Chenani) and disrupted the movement of vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for about an hour today.
They were protesting against the police alleging that cops were trying to cover the murder of Jeevan Kumar (27), son of Hem Raj and were projecting it as suicide. They placed the dead body of the youth on the road at Samroli and then sat on dharna shouting slogans against police.
They alleged that police lifted the dead body from the Tawi river and then shifted to the District Hospital as unclaimed for postmortem without informing the family members. The relatives alleged that Jeevan was driver and went missing on Monday and his body was recovered on Tuesday from Tawi bank in Chenani. They alleged that it was clear murder while police was trying to give twist to the case.
Later, MLA Chenani Dina Nath Bhagat and SDPO Vinod Sharma reached the spot and assured the agitating people to do justice and hold proper investigation into the case. Then the people lifted dharna at round 12.30 pm.
