JAMMU, Oct 17: Hundreds of people today held protest against Police Department by blocking the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at Satwari.
Large number of people hailing from different areas of Belicharana and Raipur Satwari along with the family members of the victim Vijay Kumar alias Babbi, son of Yashpaul Sharma of Belicharan assembled at Satwari and raised slogans against the Police Department for not arresting the main accused behind the murderous attempt on Babbi on September 18 at Raipur Satwari.
They also blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway for around one hour, leading to long traffic snarls.
The protestors flayed the Police Department for not taking action against the main accused, who hired two youths namely Tajinder Singh alias Jinda, son of Darshan Singh of Simble Camp, at present Azad Nagar and Simranjot Singh alias Simran, son of late Daljit Singh of Chatha Pind to carry out murderous attempt on Babbi.
The family members of the victim alleged that Vijay Kumar of Akalpur was behind this murderous attack on Babbi and the Police Department is shielding him due to the reasons best known to the police officers.
“Police lodged a case under Section 341, 323, 324/34 and 4/25 Arms Act and some of the Sections were not included in this case, so as to give safe passage to the culprits for getting bailed out easily”, they added.
On getting information, police team headed by SP South Rahul Malik and SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh rushed to the spot and assured the protestors of fair and partial probe in the case. They also assured the demonstrators that strict action will be initiated against those who will be found guilty.
On the assurance of the senior police officials, the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway was restored.
As reported earlier, Vijay Kumar alias Babbi, son of Yashpaul Sharma of Belicharan was attacked by Tajinder Singh and Simranjot Singh on September 18 at Raipur Satwari with sharp edged weapons. The accused were arrested by the Satwari police on October 15.
