POONCH, Nov 4: The people from Upper Uchhad and adjoining areas in Tehsil Mankote in Mendhar sub division of Poonch district held protest against the PHE authorities for the water scarcity and blocked road for over an hour at Uchhad.
A large number of villagers assembled at Palliyian Road at around 2 pm and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the PHE authorities for their failure to provide adequate supply of water to the people of the area. They alleged that Lower Kasblari Water Pumping Station is out of order since long and water supply to many localities has been snapped for several weeks.
Later, Tehasildar Mendhar Dr Vikram Kumar along with Naib Tehsildar Mohd Afzal arrived on the spot and assured the agitating people that their issue of water will be solved within two days.
Meanwhile, Several villages in Mankote Tehsil of Poonch are also without water supply for about three to four weeks. The villagers from Baloni, Sagra , KG Top have alleged that PHE pipes are lying broken at many places. The concerned authorities have failed to repair and restore water supply despite repeated requests. Local have sought the intervention of Chief Engineer PHE, Jammu into the matter.
