JAMMU, Feb 8: People of village Asrawan and adjoining villages of Raipur-Domana constituency today held a protest against Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for dumping the city garbage in their locality.
Around 70-80 people including men and women belonging to village Asrawan today assembled near Mishriwala and expressed their resentment against JMC for dumping the city garbage in their area. Raising slogans against the JMC officials and district administration, the protesting people said that JMC is polluting the otherwise clean surroundings of their village by dumping the waste of whole city there.
“Earlier, some five-six years back also, the JMC had tried to pollute the clean atmosphere of our village and adjoining areas but after the protest of the villagers, they stopped dumping waste here”, the irate villagers said, adding, now the JMC has again started dumping the garbage in their locality, due to which our clean environment is being polluted.
They said that it has impossible for them to even breathe, as the foul smell coming from the dumping site is spreading in the air. The protesting people also stopped the path of garbage carrying vehicles of JMC at the protesting site and did not allow them to move the dumping site.
Later, concerned Naib Tehsildar of the area reached the spot and pacified the protesting villagers by assuring that their concern will be taken up with the higher ups in the JMC.
