NOWSHERA, July 5: The people from Sunderbani and Siot area led by Block Development Council (BDC) chairman Sunderbani Arun Kumar Sharma and Sarpanch Lok Nath Sudan held a peaceful protest at Power Grid Station, Siot today.
They were demanded early commissioning of of Siot Grid Station as the people are facing acute power crisis. They pointed out that foundation stone of this Grid Station was laid by former MLA Ramesh Chander Sharma during 2006. But even after 14 years this 50 MVA electric Grid Station at Siot could not be commissioned even after its near completion.
Due to the negligence on the part of Administration the general public of the area is facing harassment. Miner work has been left moreover staff is needed to be provided at the Grid Station.
Addressing protesters, BDC chairman said that people of Sunderbani and adjoining areas are suffering due to very low voltage and unscheduled long duration power cuts in the entire belt during this scorching heat. The power situation is worst and due to this the water supply schemes are also affected. Non-functioning of pumping stations due to low voltage has hit the public hard.
Chairman further said that while the consumers are not getting regular power supply, the department is serving exorbitant bills to them which is beyond the paying capacity of the poor and common people, especially due to economic slowdown. The power bills of common people during the period should be waived off, he demanded.
DC Rajouri later contacted the protesters on phone and assured them that in next 15 days power from this Grid Station will start. The protesters then suspended protest dharna.
