People protest in city areas over long power cuts

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 28: The people held protests in various localities of Jammu city today over the long unscheduled power curtailment, adding hardships of the people during these hot summer days.
Today, the day was horrible for the city dwellers particularly in Janipur,  Bhawani Nagar, Ploura, Roop Nagar, Muthi, New Plot, Rehari,  Sarwal, Patoli, Bakshi Nagar  and many other localities of Jammu West and some parts of East constituency.  Since morning, the electricity supply in many areas remained disrupted for over six to seven hours.  The people held protest at New Plot, Rehari and BakshiNagar areas today against the PPD authorities.
While the PDD officials claimed that due to  work executed by the ERCON of replacing old electric poles and cables, the power curtailment has been imposed in some areas and it will   continue for few days,  Chief Engineer PDD  EM&RE, Ashwani Gupta however, claimed that schedule for the power curtailment to the ERCON team has been given from 6 am to 11 am and thereafter there will be no curtailment.
When asked why power curtailment continues even during mid day and afternoon hours and late evening in metered areas as well, the Chief Engineer claimed that Janipur Power Receiving Station is over loaded and most of the areas being fed from  Janipur Station are facing this problem. He said feeders of this area are over loaded and four hour curtailment is being imposed during these days.
Mr Gupta further said that  although timing of execution of poles replacement  to the ERCON team has been given from 6 am to 11 am yet sometimes due to non-completion of the task they take some more time but the department will try to ensure that  it is competed in given time. He also said that problem of over loading of feeders at Janipur will be over as new power station at Manda will start functioning within next 2-3 days.
