POONCH, Feb 12: People today held strong protest against PHE, PDD authorities at Surankote and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for about three hours while people of Harni in Mendhar also blocked road for failure of PHE to restore water supply even after one month.
Reports said a large number of people today came out on the road at Surankote at around 9 am and raised barricades. They held protest against PHE and PDD for poor water and electricity supply. The traffic on busy highway remained suspended for several hours. They raised slogans against the concerned authorities for scarcity of electricity and water in the area. Later wth the intervention of Tehsildar, dharna was lifted at around 1 pm.
People of Harni also blocked Mendhar-Surankote road on Tuesday as PHE authorities have failed to restore water even after one month. The people alleged that motor at pumping station got damaged and it has not been replaced or repaired, The people of the area are facing lot of hardships. They protested for about two hours and disrupted traffic. Naib Tehsildar and SHO concerned gave assurance and then they lifted dharna. The people of Ghani Darati in Mendhar are also facing severe water crisis and the authorities are least bothered about the public plight.
