MENDHAR, June 28: The people from Chhatral, Kalaban and adjoining areas held protest demonstration on Sakhi Maidan-Kalai road near T-junction here against the district administration and R&B authorities today.
Irate villagers blocked the road and disrupted movement of traffic for over three hours from 9 am to 12 noon. They shouted slogans against ERA, R&B department and the District Administration. Several Panchayat members were leading the protest. Later, National Conference MLC Javed Rana also joined them.
They alleged that this road which is nearly 26 km is length and connects over 15,000 population is in shambles for the last more than 15 years. Earlier ERA had been given the task to complete it. Rs 27 crore are said to have spent on it but this road has still become a cause of headache for the people. Its condition is worst despite spending huge funds on it. They demanded inquiry into the matter and fixing responsibility. It was pointed out that ERA abandoned the work due to unknown reasons and now R&B is looking after. Entire road is rough, having broken surface. It is very difficult to travel on the road. Due to worst condition of road Sumo operators also avoid to ply on this route.
Later, SDM and SDPO Mendhar rushed to the spot. They assured the public to take up the issue at the higher level. Thereafter, villagers lifted dharna.
