NOWSHERA, July 3: The people today held protest demonstration and blocked Jammu-Poonch road at Sunderbani for over two hours.
They were protesting against police for suspending traffic on busy road for some time for offering of prayer by some people on the road. They alleged that local SHO allowed Namaz prayer on the road near Pir Baba, thus creating blockade and traffic jam.
The people from the other community alleged that some miscreants did not allow them prayer on the road despite the fact that SHO had allowed them for some time as today the number of people was large and the religious place had less space to accommodate nearly 150 odd people.
The locals of the area raised slogans against the Police and SHO and said that why the road was closed and vehicular movement stopped on the busy highway. They said that Administration should provide some alternate space for offering prayers to the community so that traffic movement is not disturbed. The situation became tense and additional policemen were deployed to control situation.
Later, SDM, Tehsildar and SHO reached the spot and they defused the situation. The traffic remained disrupted for about two hours on the road.
