People protest, block Jammu-Poonch road

RAJOURI, June 7: The people from Chatyari village today blocked Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch road and held protest against the  police and medical staff of SMGS Hospital Jammu for death of minor girl  due to alleged negligence.
The family members of deceased,  Rakia Begum-17,  daughter of  Zakir Hussain of Chatyari Bagla village,  assisted by  other relatives and villagers came out on the road near Chingus and blocked road for about one and half hour.  They alleged that Rakia was suffering from fever and was removed to DH Rajouri on Sunday but doctors referred her to SMGS Hospital Jammu on the same evening. During night, a doctor at  SMGS diagnosed and said that it was fever and hypertension to the girl and nothing was to worry but she died next morning. Then doctors declared that it was poison case. The police was also intimated by them and they arrived there to take statement of family members and sent the body for postmortem.  The family alleged that nobody listened to them and wrongly projected it as poison case.
The lady doctor who was deputed for postmortem refused to go for autopsy stating that it was not a poison case and there was no mention at all in the patient’s file.  Later,  hospital staff handed over the body to them. They alleged that there is something fishy. They alleged that  girl was died due to negligence and the doctors were trying to mislead the family  and give twist to the case. They demanded action against the Police officials at Police Post there  and also the doctor concerned. The highway was blocked for one and half hour during protest. Later, SHO Rajouri and   Tehsildar reached there and assured the public to hold inquiry into the matter. Then, the people lifted dharna.
