JAMMU, July 25: Irate over the scheduled and unscheduled power cuts, the residents of Gho Manhasa staged a protest against Power Development Department.
A large number of people including men, women and children participated in the protest. The protesters also blocked the main road for about one hour to express their anger towards Power Development Department (PDD). They also burnt tyres and disrupted vehicular traffic on the road.
Raising slogans against the PDD, the protestors said that for last over 40 days they are facing acute power shortage. “The power remains off even in night hours and the public particularly aged and new borns are suffering badly in this hot and humid weather due to the carelessness of PDD employees,” they added
“Gho Manhasa is a municipal area having seven wards but still people are facing severely due to unscheduled power cuts. We approached to every concerned officer but only get hollow promises and nothing was done on the ground to improve power scenario,” said Sanjay Bamotra, one of the protestors and appealed higher authorities of the PDD to take some positive step at the earliest to redress the power related woes of the people of Gho Manhasa.
